The Eze Ndigbo of Bauchi State,
Eze Umezika has warned the Igbo community in the state against supporting any
unlawful agitation that will undermine the unity and peace of the nation and
urged them to distance themselves from the pro-Biafra protests in parts of the
country.
The Eze stated this Sunday during
an interactive session with the State Commissioner of Police, Baba Tijjani at
the police headquarters in Bauchi as part of efforts to enhance existing police
public partnership towards effective policing in the state.
Mr Umezika expressed worry over
the recent agitations by certain individuals in some sections of the country,
noting that it was uncalled for.
“The new agitation for Biafra is an
uncalled for, ill-conceived and ill-motivated. It is not in the interest of Igbo
communities and an attempt to destroy peace and unity presently enjoyed in the
nation”
” It is also targeted to ignite a
national conflict and cause chaos, pandemonium and confusion in the country.
The Igbos have made tremendous progress since the civil war, hence the people
of the South East and their future is better guaranteed and sustained within a
united Nigeria’’
“Nigeria is an indivisible entity
and has gone beyond the issue of civil war. Any agitation must be within the
ambit of respect for the indivisibility of Nigeria and the constitution” He
said
He assured of the willingness of
the Igbo community in the state to give maximum support and co-operation to the
police in order to provide safety and security in the state.
He however commended the
Commissioner of Police for the warm reception, hard work and selfless service
of the officers and men of the command in ensuring peace and stability in the
state.
In his remark, the Commissioner
of Police Baba Tijjani assured the Igbo Community that the Command is fully
committed to providing safe and secure environment for all citizens.
He urged them not to relent in
providing useful information that may assist in protection of lives and
property in the state.
